C’est le ton qui fait la panique - 11
In this episode, we dissect our way of communicating with authority figures, where respect, often expressed through deferential language, sometimes prevents us from publicly expressing disagreement.
While this language fostered social harmony in our traditional societies, today it can hinder truth-telling and criticism of abuses of power. How can we say no without being disrespectful or resorting to insults?
A recent example in Bukavu illustrates this question: a pastor directly challenged a leader of the M23 armed group, challenging social norms. Similarly, the Catholic Church often openly criticizes successive regimes in our country.
To discuss this, we welcome Lucien Ramazani, a political scientist and philosopher, and a doctoral candidate in political science at the Catholic University of Louvain.
